A long read for a long weekend: 7 notable literacy experts review Units of Study and the news is not good: "the program frequently recommends use of SMV… known more widely as the three-cueing system, which is in direct opposition to an enormous body of settled research; any student who does not immediately master an aspect of foundational reading is at risk of never getting it. The impact is most severe for children who do not come to school already possessing what they need to know … [and] are not likely to get what they need from Units of Study to read, write, speak, and listen at grade level." If you are the parent/guardian of a struggling/dyslexic reader, you probably knew that.
