My grandson, age 10, has dyslexia. He has not been officially diagnosed, but I was told by a reading tutor who has been working with him for the past year that he has dyslexia. My grandson goes to Catholic school. He was approved for special help for his reading, spelling, writing issues in this manner. A special teacher comes into the classroom once a week; walks around the classroom, and checks their paperwork. Of course, this does provide the help he really needs. The tutor that had been working with my grandson was looking for a child like Alfie so that she could get certified in a method called the Wilson method, which teaches children like Alfie had to manage his dyslexia. The testing she gave him recently showed that he progressed from a 1.3 percentile to 4.2 percentile. He needs to reach the 12th percentile, but she stopped tutoring him because she reached her goal of being certified. Now I’m told that I need to hire a tutor at the cost of between $50 and $95 an hour. Can’t afford that. Can’t move forward now and cannot move backwards. What is there I can do now???
